Devices

Learn how to add and manage the devices in your Mobile Data Anywhere account, and how they use your licenses.

What is a device

A device is a phone, tablet or computer running the Mobile Data Anywhere app. Each device in your account has a Device Name and a Unit ID. The Unit ID is entered into the app and is how the device is recognised when it connects. All devices in your account connect with the same device password, shown on the device settings page.

Adding a device

You can add devices in two ways:

  1. Go to Control Panel -> Devices, click "Add New Device", and enter the device's name and Unit ID; or
  2. Enter the connection settings into the app. If "Allow new devices to connect" is enabled and your subscription has an unallocated license, the device registers itself in the device list.

Devices and licenses

Mobile Data Anywhere is priced per license. A license covers one device, or one user with edit access.

  • A device uses one license.
  • A device can be linked to one user. The user and the device then share a single license. Set the device's Linked User on the device's Edit page, or link the device from the user's Edit page.
  • When a device is linked or created from a user's page, its Unit ID is set to that user's username, so the user enters their username as the Unit ID in the app.

The license allocation table on the Account page lists every license: which user and device each one is used by, and how many are free. Devices with no linked user show a "Link a user" link there.

Removing a device

Deleting a device stops it from connecting, but it does not remove a license from your subscription. To reduce your subscription, delete the device first, then choose "Remove licenses from my subscription" on the Account page. If the device was linked to a user with edit access, that user keeps using a license of their own until you link them to another device or make them read-only.
